Guillermo Alonso

Whether painting or with a camera, I always approach my work to be fun to make but also to express my ideals creatively. Social and political issues influence my work and allow me to show that without using words but allow others to come to that conclusion. When I do talk, I tend to sound preachy about how others should live, but I love to be preachy in my artwork, especially in the early stages of planning and sketching.

When painting, I have the freedom to be abstract and intentional about my work, being able to create my own world allows me to manipulate anything to fit my narrative. When it's photography, I still do not feel limited by the world since that is where I get my influence from. I can still manipulate the world around me even if it's on a smaller scale. Tapping on wood while ants are walking and making more come out of hiding while not hurting them is how I can also influence the world.

I was born in Dallas, Texas to two immigrant parents from Mexico. Growing up, we were very poor, and this experience shaped me as a person and recognizing injustice and hardships in this system. Because of how I grew up, this mentality never left and now it is how I express this through my artwork. The viewer will get a sense of my persona and messaging in a visual form like a painting of photography in which I work with.
